André Cymone is an American musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. Raised in Minneapolis, Cymone and his schoolmate Prince laid the foundation for the revolutionary “Minneapolis sound”. After Prince signed a record deal he asked Cymone to join him as bass player for his band, pre-Revolution. Cymone toured with Prince in support of his first three albums. In 1981 Cymone left Prince’s band and began his own solo career, releasing 3 new wave/funk fusion albums that spawned several R&B singles, including 1985’s Prince-penned Top 10 hit “The Dance Electric.” Cymone also established himself as an in-demand producer, co-writing and producing songs for a diverse array of acts, including Adam Ant, Tina Turner, Tom Jones and Jody Watley who’s Cymone produced self-titled album won her a Grammy Award for “Best New Artist and gave her several top 5 hits including “Looking for a New Love”, “Still A Thrill”, and “Real Love”. In 2014, Cymone ended a self-imposed 27-year recording hiatus with the album The Stone, that saw the artist emerge with some of the most accomplished and personal music he’s ever made. The follow-up album titled 1969 was released internationally in September 2017 and has received rave reviews. Andre is back in the Studio working on his sixth full-length album, this collection Cymone says “will be a Resurrection Of The Funk and a return to my roots”.
